Kibera internally displaced persons on Wednesday held a meeting to complain about how the state has neglected them.

The chairman of Kibera IDPs David Muganda expressed concern that he is being disturbed s by the members who think he is not forwarding their complaints to the state authorities.

However, Muganda said he has already spoken to state officials who promised him that they will be settled.

‘’The deputy president promised that he will settle us before the El Nino rains start. To date, he has not said anything and we are suffering. Personally, I am having sleepless nights because the members think I have not forwarded their complaints to the authorities which I did. I am confused and don’t know what to say,” said Muganda.

The chairman now wants the government to tell them the way forward saying they were also affected during the 2007-2008 post-election violence.

“We are living in very poor houses. These houses leak when it rains and it can lead to diseases such as malaria keeping in mind that the rainy season is here. We were once happy but after the violence, we have been left to hustle as though we did not own anything. We want the state to compensate us because it promised us,” he said.

The meeting was held in collaboration with the Nairobi internally displaced people.
