Kibera Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been urged to embrace team work and unity in a bid to press the government to honour its promise of resettling them.

Addressing the IDPs at Kibra Social Grounds on Wednesday, the group leaders expressed their concern over what they termed as lack of unity and endurance among the registered victims of the 2007 post election violence.

According to the officials who addressed the gathering of over 40 IDPs from Kibra Constutuency, the number of those registered as Kibra IDPS stands at 1084.

The officials said those who fully participate in pursuing compensation from the government are few people dedicated to getting justice as promised since 2008 by the grand coalition government.

The Coordinator of the group Rev David Muganda cited lack of dedication from most IDPs as a major challenge especially those who sit and wait for the rest to voice their concerns yet they are ready to benefit once the pursuit bears fruits.

“It is high time all the registered Kibra IDPS come out and speak in one voice because very soon things will work out in our favour. We have already talked with the committee that was formed by the President to handle our pleas and they are planning to visit us any time for vetting before we get our compensation. It would be very disappointing if some are vetted out,” said Muganda.

The secretary of the group, David Kinuthia also encouraged members not to give up despite the ‘delayed justice’ since several mechanisms have been put in place for their benefit.

This comes after the IDPs held demonstrations on Tuesday last week where they marched and camped outside Devolution CS Anne Waiguru’s office protesting over delayed compensation and resettlement.
