A section of Kibera residents said Wednesday they are making preparations for the El-Nino rains expected to start soon.
The rains according to the Kenya Metrological Department will start this week until December.
Isabella Mwangi from Makena said she has already bought enough candles and paraffin to help her if the rains will disrupt electricity.
“I use electricity to cook, most of the time, when it rains we have blackouts. I have bought enough paraffin to light my stove and candles for my children to use whenever they want to study,” said Mwngi.
On his part, Wandera Wekulo has already bought heavy blankets for his family.
“I believe the season will be very cold. To save my family from this, I have already bought duvets and mosquito nets for my family. I believe I am set for the rains,” he added.
However, Vivian Musiya thinks she has not prepared adequately for the heavy rains since she has not bought enough food.
“I don’t think I am ready because I have not bought enough food stock. I live alone but what if the rains will pour down for the whole day and night? I think it will be hard for me going out to look for a meal,” said Musiya.
The government on Sunday announced safety measures it had put in place to help citizens during the El Nino period countrywide.
