Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu has lauded area residents for their participation in the Nyumba Kumi initiative as it has led to a decrease in cases of insecurity in the sub-county.
Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Maweu said since the adoption of the community policing by residents, calm has been restored in the region.
According to Maweu, friendly and close cooperation between the residents and the police department has helped boost security in the area making the place safer and also easy for the police to search the public.
“Kikuyu has now become a safe place to work from with the town becoming a 24-hour economy. No incidences have been reported lately of people being hijacked, robbed or killed thanks to the initiative,” said Maweu.
He added that community policing had also greatly helped to round up the law breakers and remove them from the peace loving citizens.
“The area residents have been able to help our officers by sharing with them credible information pertaining to any suspicious looking people amongst them. The officers have in turn been able to act swiftly by responding promptly and attending to the residents before an offense is committed,” said Maweu.
He revealed that landlords in the area have also expressed the importance of working as a team to strengthen the Nyumba Kumi initiative as they sought to establish a system of registering all tenants who have rented their houses.
The OCPD noted that his office has mounted a vigorous campaign to encourage residents to report any suspicious and unlawful activities in the area.
He asked the residents to intensify their surveillance so that peace continues to prevail as this will enable them to concentrate on developing their region without undue destruction.
