Traffic police along the Kikuyu-Nairobi route on Friday seized a lorry transporting charcoal to Kikuyu, and arrested four people for lack of a licence.
The lorry had 540 bags of charcoal worth Sh270, 000.
According to Kikuyu OCPD Mutune Maweu, the four were engaging in an illegal business as they did not have a licence.
The police boss said the four were transporting the charcoal to various charcoal dealers in Kikuyu region, but didn't have a permit authorising them to engage in the business.
He said police in region are working hard to ensure Kikuyu sub-county does not engage in illegal businesses.
He said this was the second arrest of such dealers coming into Kikuyu.
He said they have heightened surveillance to ensure that no illegal goods or people enter the region.
The four will be arraigned in court on Monday, said the police boss.
"I want to warn illegal dealers against operating in Kikuyu because we are going to arrest you. If you don't have a licence to carry out such businesses, don’t come here because you will land into serious trouble," said Maweu.
He also called on the business fraternity to be vigilant as such dealers also sell counterfeit goods. He urged them to report of such cases to the police.
