Kikuyu youths have been urged to develop a saving culture so as to benefit themselves in the future.
Speaking at Rimuita hall in Kikuyu during an entrepreneurship programme aimed at educating youths on the importance of being self-employed, a University of Nairobi Kikuyu Campus lecturer, Humphrey Webuye said the best way to know how good you are with your own money is by your ability to save.
He said saving was a great tool to establish one’s ability not to misuse money and that it was important for the youths to develop a saving culture by opening bank accounts and joining Saccos.
The lecturer said many youth end up failing in business due to lack of saving as the youths lack business skills and easily give up when business is not doing good.
"I urge the youth especially those who aspire or have already ventured into business to develop a saving culture. Saving at an early age is very important as is enables on to plan for future purposes. Its high time youths think of their future and realise that they need to build a good life that will be brought about by saving," said the lecturer.
Joseph Njoroge, a youth in the area said saving has been a big challenge to him as he gets a small amount money that can only sustain him for a day. He said the economy of the country has made it even harder for him to save as items are really expensive.
