Kisii county has officially launched an electronic waste management program dabbed E-Waste Management, whose main agenda is set to address the careless littering of warn-out electronic gargets which has been termed a health hazard to the environment.
Gracing the occasion the Kisii county government officials led by the County Governor, James Ongwae who organized the event in partnership with the Kisii University plus other international partners, said that the program is mainly targeting electronics like phones, iron box, dilapidated desk tops and laptops among other device which is viewed as another disease causers such as cancer and other related complications.
Ongwae urged the public to be in support of the program since it’s meant to prevent each and everyone from being affected and in ensuring the county in general is catching up with other parts of world in keeping our environment clean and to dwell in.
The governor reminded every responsible citizen and those in participation especially the forth estate to help in disseminating the significance of safeguarding our surrounding areas from dangerous metal which has more often done more harm than good to our respective society all over the world.
“Let’s work as one family towards our environmental goals, and ensure we achieve and score high in keeping our neighborhood safe, avoid throwing electronic gadget anywhere be a responsible resident wherever you are staying” the Kisii County Governor pleaded.
The event is set to last for the next three days and will be organized in various institution within Kisii county whose next function is opening its curtains on Wednesday the Kisii University Premises for the official opening of collection centre in that institution.
Elsewhere the Kisii University Vice Chancellor, Prof John Akama who was in attendance, supported the move saying that it will create jobs for the youth in the re circling industry as it will upgrade the well-being of the environment.
