A 16 year-old pupil at Daraja Mbili Primary School in Kisii County last night escaped death after the house he was sleeping in caught fire.
The fire whose cause has not been established consumed the entire one roomed timber house where the boy, identified as Isaac Rayori, was sleeping alone. The house is attached to a market store in Daraja Mbili which was also partly damaged by the fire.
Confirming the incident, area police boss, Johnson Sang said they have already started investigating the incident and what was the cause of the fire adding the house did not have any electric connections.
According to the boys’s uncle, Eric Nyamweya in whose house the boy was rescued, said he heard a loud cry for help from his nephew at midnight and when he went out to check, he found the house engulfed by a huge fire.
He said that the neighbours tried to put out the fire but they were overwhelmed by it. When police arrived the boy was already burnt and he was rushed to Kisii level 5 hosptal where he is undergoing treatment.
