Several youth in Kisii on Wednesday morning held peaceful demonstrations demanding the release of Kisii-based businessman-cum-politician, Don Bosco Ooga Gichana.
According to the youth's leader Mr Joseph Masimba, Gichana has not been charged for more than three years now after being Arrested in Tanzzania. He was allegedly to face possible extradition to the US to answer to money-laundering charges involving US$4.9 million (Sh519million).
They said the money laundering allegations against him are political. The youths claimed there were some politicians in the area fuelling the matter after they realised he was a 'strong leader' in the area.
Masimba said they want the government to make up a good follow-up on the reason why Gichana is being held for all those years.
According to Masimba, Gichana was arrested in Arusha when boarding a plane to Dar-es-Salaam after the US department of security issued a warrant of arrest based on alleged money laundering accusations.
The flamboyant politician unsuccessfully vied for the Kitutu Chache South parliamentary seat and came second after former foreign affairs assistant minister, Richard Onyonka.
The 32 year old businessman who caused a stir when he became one of the few Kenyans to import a gas guzzling Hummer sport utility vehicle in 2007 has been said to be a sponsor of former presidential candidate Raila Odinga during the just 2007 and 2013 General Elections.
