Kisumu political leaders have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to make a development tour of the county.
Led by Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, the leaders said there are a number of challenges in the county that can be addressed by the president only if he makes a tour of the lakeside city.
Aduma said the president has visited Kisumu in the recent past but not on development issues.
Speaking at Uzima University College on Monday where President Uhuru Kenyatta was the chief guest during the celebration to mark 25 years of service for Rev Zaccheus Okoth, the MP said Kisumu County is peaceful and welcomes the head of state.
“We need the president to come and talk to us about development of our area,” he said.
His Nyando counterpart Fred Outa said just like other counties, Kisumu still lags behind in terms of development and appealed to the head of state to make a visit.
Outa said they have strived to keep to the programme of the day whenever President Uhuru makes a visit to Kisumu and now wants him solely for development.
He said the region needs development to engage the youth who might drift to criminal activities as a result of lack of job opportunities.
“The area is conducive for development so let the president come and help us initiate more developments,” he said.
MP Aduma, however, took the opportunity to ask the president to pass the Retirement Benefits Bill for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
He said the country should head to the next general election in 2017 without any political issue over the benefits.
President Uhuru never made any response to the requests made by the leaders when he rose to speak.
