A lobby group in Kisumu County have challenged the county government to show good governance to its locals by upgrading their societal issues within the region.

Speaking to this writer on Monday while members of the group, Alive Today Lobby Group chairperson Robert Otieno called upon the county government leadership to upgrade their skills in promoting good governance that is development oriented and friendly to see societal problems in the region, especially among youths and women, is greatly worked upon.

The lobby group chairperson stated that besides the county government giving them jobs, it should identify with most of the lobby groups as away of empowering them socially, politically and economically.

Chairperson Otieno noted that an empowered local is much more economical than a local who is not empowered.

To him there was huge laxity in the county government asking those in positions not to neglect locals especially youths and women by allocating its funds in coming up with various plans like youths nurturing and talents giving among others.

“We want to be much productive in the society we live in, this can be enhanced when those in leadership positions recognise our struggle, by associating with others through funds allocations, networking and linkages,

It is the networks and linkages that would make other donors and philanthropic bodies to aid our agendas in coming up with ventures that would help improve our standards of living," said Otieno.

The lobby group secretary Sheila Udida also challenged women leaders to improve the women manifestos and to see women in the society are properly represented in various actions.

Udida noted that it is important to form lobby groups by youths, since according to her, it is very easy to be identified in groups than as an individual.

"The county leadership should come up with policies that would empower its locals to solve huge unemployment issue, poor health and poor infrastructural development to raise its economy," advised secretary Udida.

To raise the region's economy, the county leadership has to reduce the gap of unemployment, dependency ratio and also to give skills and support to the locals which will definitely improve the local’s social wellbeing.
