Teachers Union leadership campaigns have taken a centre stage among teachers in Kisumu County.
Teachers have come out in the county to lure their colleagues to support them take different leadership seats and the first teacher to come out is Mr. Zablon Awange.
He is currently the chairman of Kenya Union of Post Primary Education of Teachers Kisumu County who had shown an interest to vie for County Executive Secretary of KUPPET.
Mr.Awang’e said the teachers' interests should be well taken care of and it needs a lot of dedications from the top leadership.
He was speaking at Alara AIC Primary during the Nyahera Zone Education Day where he revealed that KUPPET Kisumu Countybranch has not been led in a successful manner thus he is in a position to go for that leadership to take change to the region.
“It is not my wish to vie for KUPPET executive secretary, but it the wish of the Union members that I represent them as the county executive secretary,” said Mr. Awange.
He thus called upon teachers to come out and give adequate support to those who are seeking to vie for the seats and pleaded to other contestants to exercise peaceful campaigns.
However, according to the Kenya National Union of Teachers deputy executive secretary Kisumu County Mr. Osongo Mang’uro, many people have the interest to vie for several seats but they should be given adequate time to do so.
Though Mr. Mangu’uro did not clarify the seat he is eyeing for, he appealed to the teachers to have sober campaigns and carry out free and fair elections come January 2016.
