Residents of Kitutu Masaba constituency have raised concerns about selling of the new Jubilee Alliance Party outfit in the county.
Speaking to HiviSasa.com on Monday, they accused former area MP Walter Nyambati, now chairperson of Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, of imposing leaders on them in preparation for 2017 elections.
According to them, the party has secretly, through Nyambati, started recruiting preferred candidates for the next general election, particularly ward representatives and other party positions.
“We are not happy with the way they are conducting recruitment of JAP candidates ahead of 2017. Every resident deserves an equal chance in the party and therefore nobody should choose leaders without consulting us,” said Mr Peter Osiemo.
They threatened to present a formal petition to the JAP headquarters in Nairobi to investigate the conduct of the former MP.
“We will soon present a formal petition to the party headquarters with the evidence we have. Nyambati should be investigated because he has already promised some individuals direct nominations from the party hence avoiding nominations,” added Mrs Jane Nyakang’o.
However, Gesima ward MCA aspirant Mokaya Maroko, who is said to be a point man of Mr Nyambati, defended the former legislator from the accusations and blamed Nyambati’s opponents of fuelling unnecessary tension in the region.
“Those are baseless claims and I want to assure the public that JAP will go for nominations in 2017. It’s very early to start speculating and these are just the work of our opponents,” he said.
