Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has urged the opposition to focus on what is ailing the sugar industry in western region and offer a solution instead of engaging in endless political bickering over the issue.
Kuria said that the Uganda-Kenya sugar deal politics is diversionary and will not help farmers in the sugar belt region.
"Rather than go round the western region inciting farmers about the Kenya-Uganda sugar deal, why cannot we focus on finding out why the sugar industry in Kenya is not efficient. Whether the sugar is coming from Uganda or elsewhere, that is not the issue", said Kuria in Kiganjo, Gatundu South on Sunday.
Tigania East MP Mpuri Amburi who had accompanied Kuria said that the sugar industry in western has already collapsed and Uganda sugar posed no threat to it.
"They are saying that Uganda's sugar will kill our sugar industry. That is not true. Farmers in western Kenya are abandoning cane farming because it is no longer viable. That is where the problem lies," said Mpuri who is an ODM elected MP.
