Landlords in Maseno are recording high bookings by students as they prepare to start the semester in three weeks.

According to some of the landlords, this scenario is new considering that previously, houses are usually without tenants even after the semester begins.

“All my rental houses have been booked. At this time we are usually busy advertising the houses, but now there was no need to as tenants just came. I was forced to send some away because there are no houses," said James Owek, a landlord.

This has been attributed to panic among students that they might miss out on accommodation come September considering that Maseno University intends to admit the highest number of first year students so far.

Even the houses that were considered to be in remote parts of Maseno have also been booked in large numbers.

“I usually have a challenge getting customers for my houses because it is considered far.It is different now because my houses are already fully booked,” said Harrison Mweru, another landlord.
