Business owners operating entertainment joints in Gitithia and Kirenga Shopping Centre in Lari Location have been ordered to shut them down immediately.
Speaking during a meeting convened at Gitithia shopping centre on Tuesday, Lari Sub-County Commissioner Aaron Koros said the joints have been acting as hideouts for illicit brews thus undermining the government's efforts to curb the sale and manufacture of the brews.
"I direct the immediate closure of cinema halls, dart halls and pool tables in Gitithia shopping centre. We have enough intelligence that they are being used to hide illicit brews," said Koros.
Lari Ward MCA Joseph Githaiga appealed to residents to stop conniving with the sellers of illicit brews saying the fight calls for concerted efforts.
"Let us not work with the merchants of businesses of death to finish our youth. We need to inform the police whenever we come across illegal alcohol," said Githaiga.
Lari OCPD Alfred Makoma who spoke at the same event promised to enforce the commissioner's order saying that those who will be found contravening it will be dealt with accordingly.
