Lake Victoria North Water Service Board has started a project that will see more than 12 primary schools in Uasin-Gishu county getting fully installed and functioning water tanks. The tanks that will have a capacity of 10,000 litters will be used to collect rain water.
Speaking during the commissioning of a water tank at Kuinet Primary school on Thursday, the chairman of Lake Victoria North Water Service Mr. Joseph Lagat said that his organisation has come up with great plan to ensure that the schools in the region have enough water to carry them from one season of rain to another.
“We will harvest rain water enough to support you during dry spells; the county government should also come in and supply piped water too,” said Mr. Lagat.
“Our next plan will involve sanitation. We are thinking of a way to construct toilets and water taps with enough clean water and proper sanitation. Even with the coming of El nino, we will be able to prevent water borne diseases and ensure that when kids are in class, they are healthy and concentrating solely on their books,” he added.
He concluded by advising the resident to unblock all drainage systems especially with regards to the anticipated El nino rains.
