Kisii deputy governor has challenged leaders from Kisii County to put aside their partisan political interests and political party affiliations, to ensure the interests of the community are taken care of under a harmonious political relationship.

Joash Maangi, who is also the Chairman of the Deputy Governors Forum, said political parties are mere vehicles through which leaders seek the electorates' mandate to lead them in various elective and representative positions, and should not be used as political tools to divide the community members.

Speaking at Gusii Stadium on Tuesday during the Mashujaa Day celebrations, Maangi called on elected leaders from the county to give unity of the people first priority.

He said political parties mattered little to the welfare of the electorate whose objective of electing leaders to various leadership positions was to initiate and support development.

"I am challenging elected leaders from this county to put aside their political party affiliations and interests, and instead ensure they speak in unity to bring development to the electorate in the region," said Maangi.

The deputy governor said the Kisii County government was committed to working with the national government to ensure the area residents, despite their political positions and party affiliations, benefit from development projects.
