Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, has called for support of the proposed two-thirds gender rule.

Speaking in a phone interview on Wednesday, Makau said the rule if effected would ensure equity and equality among both genders in terms of leadership and fare representation.

"I as the Mavoko MP and representative of both genders believe in gender equity and equality hence support the proposed two-thirds gender rule," said Makau.

Makau said if the rule is successfully effected, it would ensure equitable gender representation more so in elective positions across the country.

Makau said that women are generally the weaker sex hence get disadvantaged during the election period due to the many challenges that they get exposed to.

He said the rule would also reduce wage bill because it would ensure that more women are elected to various political positions during general elections thereby limiting numbers of those to be nominated as opposed to the current situation.

Makau said he would mobilise other members of parliament to pass the bill arguing that if women are elected in numbers, they would make it easier to make laws which empower women and the girl child across the country.
