A man was on Thursday charged before a Nakuru court for allegedly giving false information to a Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (Kephis) seed inspector.

Samuel Mungai is accused of knowingly giving false information to Josphat Muiruri, on August 24 at Freshco international company premises in Nakuru town.

Mungai, an employee at the company, is alleged to have given false information by labelling seed packets stored at the company premises.

The court also heard that he offered maize and cowpeas seeds to the health officers that did not meet the required standard. On the same day, he allegedly offered expired seeds for sale.

Appearing before principal magistrate Bernard Ndenda, he denied the charges and was released on a surety bond of Sh100,000 and an alternative cash bail of Sh30,000.

The case will be heard on October 12 this year.
