A man was on Monday fined Sh50,000 by a Nakuru court for stealing three cows at Lomolo Sisal Estate in Rongai, Njoro Sub-County.

Dominic Cheroitich had been accused of stealing three cows valued at Sh75,000 belonging to Samuel Ngetich on July, 14.

According to the police, Ngetich had locked up his animals in the cattle shed before retiring to bed on the said night but when he woke up the following morning, he realised that the animals were not there.

He then followed the cows’ footprints and later found them grazing at Lomolo Sisal Estate but three of them were missing.

On the same day, Ngetich's cousin called him saying that three cows had been spotted at Solai Market ready for sale.

The two immediately went to the market and found the transaction almost complete. They sought help from the police who arrested Cheroitich and took him to Solai Police Station.

The photographs of the cows were presented as part of the exhibit.

Cheroitich pleaded guilty before Nakuru Senior Principle Magistrate Liz Gicheha and prayed for the court’s forgives saying he is disabled.

State prosecutor urged the court to treat him as a first time offender since he has no previous criminal records.

He was fined Sh50,000 or face one year in jail.
