A man was on Wednesday sentenced to 130 years imprisonment for defilement and infecting a minor with HIV.
John Oduor Okewo, 25, was found guilty of the charges by Tamu law courts in Muhoroni.
Senior Resident Magistrate, Aswani Opande jailed Okewo 100 years for defilement of a nine year old girl and 30 years for infecting her with HIV. He committed the offence on March 27, 2015 at Muhoroni trading centre within Kisumu County.
Okewo was found to have lured the minor into his house with biscuits where she defiled her. Magistrate Opande found Okewo guilty after the minor testified and presented evidence beyond reasonable doubt.
The medical reports and evidence by police tabled before the court also shows that indeed the minor was defiled and infected by the convict. Okewo pleaded for leniency but Opande said the offence committed were serious. He was given 14 days to appeal the ruling.
According to the doctors who examined the minor, they said the child will be fine since quick medication measures were taken immediately she was brought to the hospital.
