A man was arraigned before a Nakuru court for allegedly assaulting a police officer and stealing his mobile phone.
Simon Kuria with others not before court was accused of allegedly robbing Police Constable John Manyara and stealing his smartphone, an iPhone 5.
The court heard that Kuria also stole his police riot button, cap and destroyed his uniform, all valued at Sh33,500 on August 19, 2015 with Nakuru.
The traffic police officer had arrested him together with others for over-speeding and as they were being escorted to the Ngata police post, they drove the car past the station with constable Manyara inside their vehicle.
They allegedly used a screwdriver and pliers to rob the unarmed officer, threatening him using the said weapons before abandoning him.
The court heard that there were three men and a woman in the car but it was the driver who was tracked by the police and arrested.
Appearing before Senior Principe Magistrate Liz Gicheha, Kuria pleaded not guilty and was released on Sh50,000 cash bail.
The case will be heard on October 6.
