The Ministry of Education has been urged to conduct and urgent inspection of colleges in Uasin Gishu to ascertain their eligibility to offer technical courses.

Majority of colleges in the county have been accused of offering courses that are not accredited by the ministry leading students to waste considerable time pursuing unrecognised courses.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Governor Jackson Mandago said that several colleges in Eldoret are not certified to offer technical courses and lack adequate training equipment.

"The government should increase its funding to public higher learning institutions such as polytechnics, technical institutions and universities that will ensure that they offer quality courses and by doing so will attract more students thus discouraging other institutions from offering fake courses," he said.

He says that he has received complaints from parents that their children's certificates weren't recognised after completing courses in institutions in the area.

"It is very painful for a parent to waste all that amount of money and time in vain," he said.
