Maseno University Monday joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Day of Peace .
The occasion that was hosted by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Students Affairs attracted several departments within the varsity, students, deans of schools, directors and support staff.
The celebrations come even as the university’s students look forward to elect new leaders for their students’ body.
"We understand the reasons to why last academic year’s elections were aborted. This time we need to preach peace," Prof Kipsat Mary, DVC Academics and Student Affairs said at the university’s graduation square.
She urged the aspirants and other students to uphold themselves with decorum.
Every aspirant who took to the podium preached peace and promised the administration that the campaigns and voting would be peacefully.
In addition, the aspirants represented to the audiences some of the resolutions that they had passed on Saturday that would ensure free, fair and peaceful elections.
Some of the major resolutions are; disciplinary actions be taken against those found removing posters of their opponents, voting to be done per school and not as per hall of residence, ,Kamkunji to be moderated to ensure peace and a list of students in all schools should be pretended to ensure accountability.
The house was full of fun as different skates were presented that passed the message of peace and also served as entertainment.
As the theme 'peaceful SOMU' dominated the day, the occasion also provided a platform for discussions and elaborations on the revised chapters and the articles of SOMU Constitution.
