The leadership of churches within Mavoko sub-county, Machakos County, have been told improve the security whenever they hold prayers and other church functions.

Speaking in his office on Thursday, Mlolongo Assistant Commissioner, Obed Mose said almost all the churches from the region had become reluctant on their members' security status.

"We have to remind all men and women of the cloth manning churches across Mavoko sub-county to be mindful to status of their congregations whenever they hold prayers or church meetings," said Mose.

According to Mose he has observed that many churches no longer conduct security checks on those entering church putting the worshipers at risk.

Mose said the situation could easily allow for unsuspecting criminals gain entry into the prayer houses.

He said that locals from the region should not forget that criminal individuals, gangs and groupings like Alshabaab had in the past severally attacked various churches across the nation.

"Every Kenyan including the clergy have for a long time known that the criminal groupings and gangs especially the Al shabaab have for a long time been targeting churches and mosques, why have the seized protecting them," said Mose.

Mose said all members of churches from Mavoko should make it personal responsibilities to ensuring they are always protected whenever in church compounds by compelling and supporting their pastors seek for armed security personal from relevant police forces in a bid of securing congregation from unnecessary attacks which are threats to their lives.
