Residents of Gesima ward have a reason to smile after area Member of County Assembly (MCA) offered to subsidise the cost of power connection to their households.

This comes a few weeks after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced a government subsidy on power connection that saw the prize reduce from Sh35,000 to Sh15,000 for people who are within 600m from institutions.

Speaking on Tuesday at Ritibo village, Mr Ken Atuti of Gesima ward said every household will receive Sh5,000 as a subsidy in a move aimed at increasing the number of residents connected to electricity.

“Electricity is very essential and that is why I want to announce a subsidy of Sh5,000. This will make it possible for you people to get connected to power. Only those who are within 600m from the institutions will benefit before we organise on those who aren’t favoured,” he said.

Atuti said connection of households with electricity will partly reduce the cost of living besides enabling children to study uninterrupted at night.

“We all know how it is quite difficult for residents to afford kerosene and this is a perfect opportunity for you people. We will see our children get ample time to study,” he added.

Area residents welcomed the move by calling it ‘heroic and timely’ and vowed to support his development agendas.
