Kikuyu Ward MCA Binary Wainaina has asked the National Youth Service (NYS) to give priority to recovering alcoholic youths.
The MCA said the recovering alcoholics should be engaged in the empowerment programmes taking place in the area and NYS should give them the first priority when it embarks on the recruitment process.
Speaking to bodaboda riders in Kikuyu on Monday, Wainaina said the only way to salvage the youths and deter them from slipping back to alcoholism was to keep them busy.
"An idle mind is the devil's workshop. We are happy that our young men and women are now sleeping and waking up sober. But this could be short-lived as alternatives may arise if we don't do something to change their mindsets," said Wainaina.
The MCA also lauded Kabogo's plan to hire up to 100 youths from every ward in the county saying the move is going to transform their lives for good.
"This is a noble initiative by the county government as it is complementing the national government's effort to empower as many youths as possible," he added.
The MCA called upon other like-minded MCAs to support the program which will not only see the youths earn money but save for the future.
