Mount Kenya University founder and chairman Simon Gicharu has challenged head teachers in the country to embrace innovation and creativity to enable the country develop scientifically and attain Vision 2030.
Gicharu who recently bagged the 2014 Eastern Africa Chapter of Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award said innovations such as the Taifa Laptop Project by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technlogy should be supported by all.
"It is commendable that the government has ordered public institutions to procure up to 40 per cent of equipment produced locally and as the chairman of the Rural Electrification Authority, I will ensure its full implementation,” said Gacheru.
He added that he will ensure that all rural schools in the country are connected with electricity to enable the successful roll out of the laptops for schools project spearheaded by the Jubilee government.
He was speaking at Mount Kenya University in Eldoret on Friday when he paid a courtesy call to the institution.
