A Nyamira politician eyeing the gubernatorial seat in 2017 has denied claims from a section of the youth that accused him of being rigid.

The politician has vowed to include more youth in his government if elected in 2017 even as the youth say he is reluctant in accepting other people’s opinions.

Charles Mochama was hosting a group of young people from Nyamira County following mounting criticism on his way of leadership from a section.

Mochama blamed his political rivals for inciting the youth against his leadership by allegedly funding them to defame him in a Facebook forum dubbed New Nyamira County.

“It’s really sad that some youths are labeling me a rigid leader. I am always flexible and ready to work with everyone without discrimination. I am a good listener and that is why I called a number of you here to discuss the destiny of our county. The character assassination financed by rivals against me cannot work,” he said.

Mochama, who works with World Bank as a consultant faulted the Nyamira County government for what he calls ignoring the youthful population in various appointments.

“I personally believe in the youth power and if elected, you will see a reasonable representation of youths in various appointments contrary to what is currently being done. Our future lies in you and we can realise it if you are empowered,” he added.

He challenged the youth to venture into business by coming up with ideas that could attract funding.

“I believe that youths can make huge strides in leadership by being independent financially. That can be achieved if you come up with business ides that can be supported by us,” he added.
