Over Sh100 million is lost at the Moi University in every financial year, due to fraud in registration where private students are registered as regular students.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Moi University Vice Chancellor Richard Mibei said that there has been a scum involving university officials and private sponsored students, where millions of shillings have been lost through corruption.

“The private sponsored students are usually given admission numbers meant for regular ones, and instead of paying a rough figure of Sh100,000 in every financial year, they end up paying Sh30,000 only, thus making the campus run at a loss,” he added.

He reiterated that investigations are underway and anyone found conducting such ill acts will face stern actions for tarnishing the institution’s name.

He urged parents and students to be careful not to fall into the conmen’s hands by ensuring they pay their fees at the right places, and making sure they are issued with right admission numbers and avoid short cuts which may end costing them a lot.
