A crackdown against rogue motorcycle operators is in the offing in Molo town according to area police boss Richard Masinde.

The Molo OCPD on Thursday sent a warning to bodaboda cyclists in the area against breaking traffic rules saying that it was now a matter of concern in regard to the number of accidents being reported on a daily basis.

“According to statistics in my office, not less than 5 accidents involving motorcycles are reported on a daily basis, don’t you think that is serious?" he asked.

“We have trained these young men, we have asked them to be slow and respect other road users but they just don’t want to comply, time has come to act and stop this,” he added.

Masinde accused the operators of over speeding, overloading, dangerous overtaking among other traffic rules.

“The law is very clear about those who break traffic rules, why should one person endanger the lives of a thousand other road users? He asked.

“We have advised the operators to form small groups or register Saccos so as to be manageable and people are easily traceable in case of complaints,” he said.

Molo is among the largest producers of milk in the county with motorcycles offering the easiest and most affordable form of transport.

The OCPD was speaking in Molo town on Thursday after visiting an accident scene where a bodaboda operator had knocked down a student near the town centre.
