A middle aged woman was on Monday arrested at Bondeni in the outskirts of Kebirigo town for allegedly selling her two day infant for Sh2,300.

The woman identified as Tabitha Nyansimera was arrested by the area Assistant Chief with the help of Police officers after they were given a tip of by the mother of the woman.

According to her mother Teresa Nyansimera the lady gave birth at home and the child disappeared after two days and that is the time she suspected something was going wrong.

She added that upon investigating her, the lady accepted the offence that she had sold her child due to the hard times she was going to face in bringing up the child.

After the chief arrived the lady accepted to have sold the child to a Kisii based nurse who has been in search of a child.

She said that she opted to give out the newborn because she could not afford another mouth to feed after the father of her children abandoned them immediately after she conceived the third pregnancy.

According to the area Assistant Chief Kenedy Moigwa the lady has been arrested and is at Kebirigo Police Station as they are in search of the woman who bought the child before being arraigned in court.
