The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) health workers and other members of staff on Friday downed their tools demanding an audience with the hospitals' management.
The workers were demanding to be heard by the hospital's board of management to come up with an agreement on a number of issues including the term of CEO, John Kibosia.
Speaking at the MTRH memorial grounds on Friday, Daisy Korir, a doctor at the facility, said that the CEO had drastically improved operations at the hospital and said employees were demanding that his term be extended.
"We are afraid that if the CEO is transferred to another hospital, his projects may not continue. He was at the forefront in fighting for those who were employed on contract to be confirmed as permanent employees," said Korir.
She said that there were employees who hard worked on contractual terms for a period of up to seven years without being offered permanent employment.
"We want the board of management to listen to us. If at all he wants to be transferred the process should be transparent," she added.
Paul Ating, a representative of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions and Hospital Workers (Kudheiha), said that they cannot stand and watch the hospital "crumble to the ground".
"Our CEO is good that is why they want to transfer him to Nairobi and we cannot let that happen. They said he is good that is why they want to go and stay with him in Nairobi, why wouldn't they just extend his term?" he said.
The workers vowed not to return to work until addressed by the board of management.
By the time of going to press the board was yet to address the workers even as word came that they were set to be addressed by 1pm.
