Parents in Naivasha have been cautioned against leaving their children unattended to minimise cases of child abductions and kidnappings.

According to Lake Naivasha Boat Owners Association chairman David Kilo, the rate at which children were being allowed to wander around unaccompanied is worrying expressing fears that the rate of abductions might increase.

Speaking at the Lake Naivasha Resort on Sunday, Kilo regretted the numerous instances his office has been forced to help parents locate their children who wander into the facility then end up being stranded.

“Cases of lost children at our facility are on the rise, our worry is, what if a child fails to locate the parents totally?" he asked.

He advised parents to be always on the alert because children are always adventure-seeking and without being restricted they may get lost.

“This usually happens on Sunday where children leave home for church but because of their local arrangements end up here to play. Some have fare back home while some are left here, not knowing what to do,” Kilo said.

He added, “Some parents are too much preoccupied in their careers that they don’t have a clue of what their children do behind their backs.”

He called on parents to ensure that their children are accompanied by an adult who would be in a position to help them in case of an emergency especially while visiting recreational facilities.

Naivasha Lake Resort offers boat riding, camping facilities, merry-go-rounds, family out door games among others.

“We are very strict this August holiday because we don’t want any inconveniences. Parents who intend to send their children to us must ensure that they are accompanied by adults for security reasons,” he warned.
