Naivasha Sub-County children officer John Chege has raised alarm over the rise in defilement cases in some parts of Naivasha and called for government intervention.

Speaking at his office in Naivasha on Thursday, Mr Chege said that cases of young girls being defiled and boys being sodomised were on the rise.

He said that three cases of defilement have been reported in Naivasha town in a span of three weeks.

The children official said that most cases of defilement are not being reported adding that the cases could be higher.

“We are concerned and alarmed by the rise in defilement cases in Naivasha” he said.

The officer noted that some of the acts are being committed by people who are well known to the victims and their families. He further complained over lack of commitment by the security officers in handling defilement cases in the sub county.

The children officer said that the situation is serious and needs urgent interventions calling for a review of laws under the Sexual Act to have more harsh penalties for convicted offenders.

“We must deliberate and change some of the clauses on the Sexual Act to effectively fight defilement and cases and assaults,” he said.

The official's concerns came as police in Naivasha arrested a local pastor who allegedly defiled his 14 year old daughter at Gituamba village in Naivasha.

The pastor is currently being held by police for investigations while the daughter is being counselled at a local rescue centre in Naivasha.
