A section of leaders in Naivasha are calling for investigations into controversial Constituency Fund Development (CDF) projects in the area.

The leaders claim the fund committee has misused the money that has been set aside for key projects meant to alleviate suffering among locals.

Led by the chairman of the Nakuru County Assembly Implementation Committee Simon Wanango, they want officials of the fund investigated and arrested.

Wanango said it was a shame to see that the fund has never completed projects that are started yet there is sufficient money allocated to them.

He accused area MP John Kihagi of running the fund as his own without transparency.

"Kihagi has employed his close confidants to run the fund and no one knows what projects are being carried out or implemented," he said.

What has raised eyebrows, according to Wanango, was the purchase of two school buses in August which he says are parked at the area Deputy County Commissioner's office.

Addressing the press in Naivasha, Wanango said that parents of the two schools never wrote proposals for the purchase of the buses as they had not completed the construction of classrooms.

“That project needs to be investigated as we were told that the two buses were bought at Sh14 million which is way above the normal price that we know," he claimed.

The chairman who is also the Lakeview MCA said since they were elected there has never been a meeting of all leaders to discuss of CDF projects.

The Chairman of the Nakuru County Youth Forum, Charles Mburu said residents would not sit down and watch taxpayers’ money "being wasted" and called for speedy investigations into the projects.

"Why would someone force parents of needy schools to accept buses that they never wanted and yet the money could be enough to construct classrooms and even laboratories for the said schools," he wondered.

The two school buses are meant for the Nyonjoro and Kinungi secondary schools in the area but are yet to be given to the respective schools.

Efforts to reach Naivasha MP for comment before going to press were futile.
