The court has issued a go-ahead to the county government of Nakuru to bury unclaimed bodies in mortuaries.

The bodies which will be buried in Gilgil and Nakuru South cemeteries are said to be 251.

According to the County public heath officer Samuel King'ori, 200 bodies are infants, 35 adults from Nakuru while 16 other bodies are from Naivasha.

"Some of the bodies have been lying at the morgue for over seven months waiting for family members to identify them," he said.

King'ori said that unclaimed bodies in Naivasha mortuaries will be buried at Gilgil Cemetery while those in Nakuru mortuaries will be buried at the south cemetery saying other cemeteries are full to capacity.

"The County loses over Sh20 million annually due to cases of uncollected bodies," he added.
