A Nakuru County government official has blamed the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for the delay in rolling out four ambulances donated to the county.

Speaking to Hivisasa on phone on Tuesday, Nakuru County CeC for Health Samuel Mwangi Mwaura claimed that they had submitted all the legal requirements to KRA for the processing of the registration.

“We submitted all the required documents and we are waiting for them to respond before we can start using the ambulances,” he said.

Mwaura said that the ambulances would begin operations as soon as the registration process was completed.

County Director of Communication Eddy Kimani said that the issuance of number plates was beyond the county government’s control.

“Our hands are tied. There is not much we can do until KRA is through with the paperwork,” he added.

Residents of Nakuru have expressed concern over the failure of the county government to utilize the ambulances which they say are “gathering dust” at the county headquarters

The ambulances were donated by The World Bank and are meant for Rongai, Subukia, Gilgil and Kuresoi areas.

“It’s unfortunate that people are still dying due to lack of accessibility to the hospitals yet have four ambulances lying idle,” said Peter Mwaura, a resident.
