A Kenya Union for Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) in Nakuru wants the government to hire more education officers.
Kuppet Nakuru branch chairperson Sammy Kambo said shortage of the education officials has led to teacher laxity in most schools adding that cases of teacher absenteeism were on the rise.
Addressing the press at the branch offices in Nakuru town on Monday, Mr Kambo said: “The inadequate number of county education officers has resulted to poor inspection of schools leading to an increase in indiscipline cases across the county."
“Parents and Teachers Associations and Board of Governors' committees should ensure that schools are run by professionals who have a clue on how institutions are managed."
According to the education official, the shortage of the education staff was partly to blame for the poor results in national examinations registered in some Nakuru schools.
He said some schools spend three months without being visited by education inspectors.
This, he said, partly contributes to teacher absenteeism in some schools.
