Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has challenged the Commission on Revenue Allocation to come up with a formula that will ensure that counties get allocations that are directly proportional to their contributions to the national tax basket.
Speaking during an interview on Kameme Fm on Monday, Ichung'wa said counties like Kiambu, Murang'a and Nyeri have been receiving little allocations despite being high contributors of national revenue.
"If you compare the amount of revenue generated by a county like Turkana and the kind of budget they are receiving, and do the same comparison to a county like Kiambu you will notice that there is a huge disparity," said Ichung'wa.
The MP added that there is need to have a consultative meeting between the budget office, the Presidency and other stakeholders to ensure that money allocated to individual counties reflect revenues generated by them and their demographics among other issues.
"We represent people and you cannot say we allocate huge resources to a county merely because it is big. We have to be pragmatic enough and see beyond the obvious," he said.
