Ngata 2 NV matatu Sacco in Nakuru town is threatening to demonstrate on Friday if their plea to have a common stage for matatus driving to Ngata is not addressed.

David Angwenyi, one of the officials of the Sacco said that the Governor had issued a directive for all matatus within town to move to stages away from the CBD in an effort to clean up the town yet Ngata 2 NV sacco was the only one that bowed down to the directive while the rest, Naloki and Precious Sacco have up to now continued to operate within the CBD.

“Governor Kinuthia Mbugua issues a directive that all stages within the CBD should move to other places not so busy saying that this was an effort to clean up the town,”Angwenyi said.

The officials are now complaining that the county government is not being fair in dealing with this matter adding that most of the passengers prefer boarding matatus from both Naloki and Precious Sacco whose stage is within the CBD and is easier to access. Angwenyi added that this has been on -going for the last close to one month and it has had an immense impact on their business.

“We are Kenyans who entirely rely on this business. If those two Saccos continue operating within the CBD, where will we get our income from, yet we rely on the same customers who now prefer using the other matatus since they are closer to town than we are? ” Angwenyi questioned.

The officials complained that they had been told that all the matatus operating along the same route would have moved to the new stage with the promise that electricity would be installed to ensure security yet up to now they are still living in darkness as the street lights available are not working a factor that also discourages most passengers during late hours.

“These street lights are not even two weeks old and none is working. Which passenger would risk their lives to come to this dark stage at night?”

The officials have now issued a threat to the county government that if the Ngata stages are not merged up before Friday this week they will match to the governor’s office and relay their out cry.
