A section of Ngoliba ward residents in Thika Sub-County on Wednesday resisted the attempts by county officials to put up a cess collection centre at Munyu area along Garissa road.

The residents who were mainly bodaboda operators destroyed a structure that was being put up by county officers saying that they will not pay any cess to the county government since the road was impassable.

A county government cess officer, John Mwangi who was at the centre had to flee as the bodaboda operators approached the structure.

"The same operators two weeks ago destroyed another shed and carried the timber and iron sheets it was built with," he recalled.

The boda boda operators said that although they were paying cess whenever they carried agricultural products, the roads have been in bad shape and riding their motorcycles is a nightmare.

One of the operators Antony Kimathi says they are losing business because some travellers were shunning bodabodas due to poor state of the road.

Area MCA Griston Ngigi later addressed them and calmed them down saying that their grievances will be addressed immediately adding that plans to rehabilitate all the feeder roads in the area were ongoing.
