The National Nurses Association of Kenya Chairman Jeremiah Maina, has called on the government to address their grievances to prevent the nurses from suffering.

Speaking on Monday in Thika Town, Kiambu County to members of the union, Maina maintained that negotiations are the best option to end the stand-off that has persisted for a long time.

“I believe that welcoming the government on the negotiation table will end the suffering the nurses are under going,” said Maina.

According to Maina, the nurses have been experiencing salaries delays and shortage of supplies in their working stations.

Maina claimed that the nurses welfare started to deteriorate when the health sector was devolved and efforts to seek an everlasting solution with devolved units have not been easy.

“The union has held several negotiations with the county governments over the issues of nurses but none has materialised,” said Maina.

He added, “I am now calling on the national government to come to our rescue so that our grievances can be addressed.”

The chairman also said that the issue of houses should be tackled to enable their members to own houses.

Maina further called for the implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to ensure nurses enjoy their rights.
