The Kenya National Union of Nurses has threatened to move to court to compel the county governments to remit funds to the County Pension Fund.

The union's National Secretary Seth Panyako said the fund has not been remitted since January 2014 to the pension scheme.

Mr Panyako said there are some counties which have failed to remit such funds to the statutory body.

He said the union will obtain a court order to direct such counties to do the remittance from last year to the pension fund kitty.

“I have received numerous complaints from my members in several counties and I want to tell those counties to start the remittance dated back in January 2014 or we move to court,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Wednesday during a meeting for the union members organised by the County Pension Fund, Panyako said the union will continue to defend the rights of its members.

He said the law stipulates that the county governments must remit that fund to the pension fund.

“As a union, it is our work to ensure the rights of our members are not infringed upon by anybody. The retirement benefits for our members must be remitted and I will pursue that matter very closely,” he said.

The union official said the retirement benefits for the county workers must be secured and urged the county governments to carry out their mandate of ensuring such funds are remitted in time.
