Politicians from Kitutu Masaba will no longer hold public rallies without official consent from the police, Manga OCPD Elkana Kipkorir has said.
Speaking on Wednesday at Magombo area, the police boss accused politicians from the region of holding rallies that were putting the population in election mood and insightful utterances.
He said the decision was arrived at after a meeting with security personnel and the communication had been made to all area politicians.
“There will be no public rallies across the constituency. We have been receiving incidents where supporters turn against each other and following incitement by their respective preferred candidates. They must obtain consent from my office by convincing us the reason to hold the rally,” he said.
Kipkorir further warned politicians of using funerals and harambees as political platforms to throw scathing attacks on each other.
“By banning public rallies does not mean we will encourage them to use funerals and harambees as avenues for political competition. As the police, we will be very keen to follow them and monitor their speeches,” he said.
