One person died and nine others injured in a grisly road accident after the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and rolled at Muguga in Thika East on Wednesday.

The Thika Travellers Sacco (2TS) vehicle was heading to Matuu from Thika town by the time of the accident.

Confirming the incident, Thika traffic base commander Apelles Chacha said one woman died on the spot and six others who sustained serious injuries were rushed to Thika Level Five hospital.

The traffic boss said the vehicle was overtaking a slowing lorry that was heading to the same direction down the valley when the driver lost control and knocked the rails by the road side.

“Drivers should strictly adhere to the stipulated traffic rules and regulations, the driver of the matatu was overtaking on an area cautioned not to overtake,” she said.

Muguga area is a black spot and drivers have been cautioned to adhere to stipulated speed limit as they approach the zone to avoid causing accidents.

Thika Level Five hospital chief nurse Rosemary Mwangi confirmed that two patients were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment as they were in a critical condition.
