One person has been confirmed dead and seven others seriously injured in an accident that occurred near Makongeni Police Station on Friday morning.
According to the Thika traffic base commander Apelles Chacha, police took more than an hour to get to the accident scene due to traffic congestion. The traffic jam is due to Mount Kenya University's graduation ceremony that is taking place on Friday in Landless.
The base commander said that from the information she has, a lorry which was speeding from Makongeni to Thika lost control at the Ananas Shopping Mall before it hit several vehicles causing injuries.
She said that the residents have surrounded the area and they are still retrieving the injured from the vehicles saying that the area has a lot of people and it has become hard for the police to get to the scene immediately.
There was traffic jam from Gatitu Junction all the way to Landless. Accessing Thika Town this morning has become hard due to the huge crowds heading to the institution graduation pavilion.
