Sigona ward MCA Mutonya Njenga has said over 500 bursary applicants will be vetted and the most deserving cases will be awarded the bursary cheques in an open, fair and transparent process.
The MCA said the criteria for those deserving the bursary focuses on the poverty stricken families with the help of Nyumba Kumi leaders and elders in the society to confirm the beneficiaries’ status.
He said education in Sigona is fundamental in his manifesto and he will ensure the poor children acquire basic education accordingly just like any other common Mwananchi in the society in line with vision 2030.
He expressed his concerns with school drop outs in the society, and lauded the county government of Kiambu for introducing feeding programmes in most kindergarten schools in the county.
“Applicants should be patient as we will soon unveil the beneficiaries in an open and transparent manner,” said Njenga.
He said taming the young generation in schools requires an extra proactive leader to engage the youths in activities which will help tame use of drugs and criminal activity.
He said he had engaged many youths in different tournaments, citing the ongoing Mutonya Njenga Cup, which is aimed at giving Sigona youth a platform to showcase their talents and encourage them to shun heinous activities.
The MCA however called on well-wishers to assist the people of Sigona acquire basic education in a bid to save the future generation.
