Parents have been asked to instill morals in their children and advise them against living materialistic lives that lead them to engage in illegal and immoral activities to get money.
Addressing Kiamabundu residents on Tuesday at the funeral of a county enforcement officer, Pastor Ben Obwoge urged parents to take the initiative of teaching their children especially girls, on how to spend sparingly while in institutions of higher learning.
According to pastor Obwoge many college students have engaged in ‘evil’ activities to get money for spending on luxuries which eventually destroy their lives.
He claimed that a number of female college students have turned to prostitution to get extra money to spend on luxuries and meet other expenses. He claimed that a number of sex workers in Kisii Town were college students.
“It is our mandate as parents to let our children know that when they are at school they will survive with the little money that we give them. Let us teach our children the way they should live," he said.
He also said that if the parents cannot instil good morals to their children as they grow up then their advice will not work when the children are grown up and the integrity of the future generation would be lost.
